Audience & Services
Forsyth County Library currently owns one "mobile library unit," otherwise known as a bookmobile. This bus, which is 20 years old, travels to daycare centers and Headstart programs to provide preschool teachers and children with access to books that they may not have otherwise. In addition to the preschool program, the bus also goes to areas where it may not feasible for local residents to travel to a library branch.
By the Numbers
- Books, both for children and adults, audiobooks, and magazines are available
- According to a 2015 library referendum, there are 21,297 books and resources
- The bookmobile was visited 6,793 times with 536 library card users
Going Forward
In 2015, the library applied for a grant of $100,000 to help improve the quality and feasibility of the bus, expand its use of technology, and serve a greater area. Their specific goals are:
- Provide laptop computers, projectors, printers, and iPads to serve community members who may not have access to technologies
- Increase technology for literacy programs for children and job training and information on technology for adults seeking employment or employable skills
- Expand their reach from preschools to seniors in assisted living facilities, community members in transitional housing or unstable housing, and residents who are English language learners
